More about the (not so local) online Local Food Summit

8/11/2017

Turns out that access is only for a 48 hour selection of speakers at any given time.  It looks like there is one high profile speaker daily and other less known, but very interesting speakers throughout the day.  So anytime you login, you will be able to see the current day's speakers as well as those of the day prior.

For free access to a list of speakers that reads like the 'Who's who' of the food movement, check this out. The Summit is Aug 6-16. I heard a rumor that it isn't going to stay free so don't wait to register (for free) if you're interested. Aloha, Mary

Could a new 'food truck/mobile farmer's market/food delivery business model gaining traction in Texas work in Hawaii?

An investment fund-raising site called Wefunder is featuring a campaign for this food business that has combined a number of food-chain delivery concepts to come up with an interesting business model.  I wonder if this would work in Hawaii??  There is a great description of the business and a lot more in the Q&A section at the link below.    Aloha, Mary

    About the author:
    Mary Spadaro

Founder and facilitator of  Slow Money Hawaii, Mary spent a decade in small businesses before a 17 year career in non-profit fundraising.   At Waikiki Health Center and Easter Seals Hawaii, where she helped  donors align their philanthropy with their philanthropy, she came to understand that business and charity share the goal to be a force for good in their communities. Yet, they  are regarded so differently. After retiring from fund raising and pursuing her  interest in gardening and agriculture, Mary learned about the emerging third sector (also referred to as Values or Impact Investing) and Slow Money.  In this realm, she found the opportunity to combine her fundraising skills with her love of farms, garden-fresh food and nature to play a small role in helping Hawaii farmers to rebuild a sustain-able and regenerative agricultural system that will nourish us all.
